Terra State’s Evan Schiefer Named National Athlete of the Week
When you’re the only runner representing your college, standing out takes a special kind of grit — and Terra State freshman Evan Schiefer has plenty of it.
Schiefer, from Attica, Ohio, was named the NJCAA Division III Men’s National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The award honors standout performances across all levels of collegiate cross country — recognizing athletes who not only post top times, but also make a mark on the national stage.
At the Region 12 Championships, Schiefer finished fourth overall with a time of 25:45.1 in the 8K, the fastest time by any Division III runner in regional competition that weekend. Competing against a strong field that included No. 1–ranked Lansing Community College (Division II), Schiefer held his own — keeping Lansing from sweeping the top six positions.
Now, Schiefer’s remarkable freshman season continues as he heads to Iowa to compete in the NJCAA National Championship the first week of November.
